We envision a world where all individuals and families achieve their human potential.
For more than 50 years, United Way of Northeastern Minnesota has mobilized the caring power of community resources to serve people in need in our service territories. Starting in 2008, United Way of Northeastern Minnesota has embarked on a transformational change through a new service model called Community Impact. The Community Impact model takes us far beyond our traditional fundraising model. We create deep and lasting changes by addressing the underlying elements that are the building blocks for successful lives and communities in the areas of Helping Children Succeed, Empowering Healthy Lives, and Stabilizing Families and Individuals.
Helping Children Succeed
A child with a strong educational foundation has a better chance of succeeding and positively contributing to their community later in life. Through quality child care, early childhood education, tutoring, mentoring, and more, United Way helps our children reach their full potential and prepares them for bright, promising futures.
Empowering Healthy Lives
A healthy life is key to a happy life. All of our community members have the right to live safe, healthy and independent lives for as long as possible. United Way strives to ensure everyone has access to the quality healthcare and support they need.
Stabilizing Families and Individuals
A strong community depends on having support systems in place to respond to disasters and help people overcome hard times to get back on their feet. United Way is there to stabilize our communities through access to emergency food, safe shelter, housing services and disaster relief. We provide support to those experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault and work to reduce it. We help people become self-sufficient, which means stronger communities for all of us.

A coordinated investment strategy that focuses on these underlying elements is the most effective way to reduce poverty and change conditions in our community. We cannot reach our goals with dollars alone...
We are working to promote and provide opportunities for community engagement, foster collaborations of businesses, non-profits and community leaders, and mobilize the full breadth of our community’s assets - people, knowledge, relationships, technology, and money - to implement our Community Impact plan.
Together, we will improve the lives of people facing the greatest challenges and ultimately our entire community. Together, we will see change. Together, we will see Community Impact.
