United Way of Northeastern Minnesota (UWNEMN) is extremely near and dear to my heart. I was a skeptic from day one, but being a part of this organization has changed me in many different ways.

It’s both an honor - and a surprise, if I’m being honest - to be elected the new board president.

I’m not as polished as my predecessors, but what I do share with each of them is a belief in this organization and the people who keep it going - and growing.

That includes you - the donors and volunteers - and of course, our second-to-none staff.

Not only is each UWNEMN staff person great at what they do, every one of them goes above and beyond.

Everyone does everything, everywhere.

When you donate to UWNEMN, you never should have any doubt that our team is working hard and making the most with what you’ve given.

I’m excited about where we’re headed.

I just hope I’m up to the task.

Thankfully, I’ve learned a lot of lessons from some of the region’s best, including our late friend Dan Kotnik who we all miss so deeply.

We will do our best to emulate Dan by being true friends to all, showing up to help whenever we are needed, and, of course, being quick to make motions to adjourn long board meetings.

Matt, USW Local 2705 and Cleveland-Cliffs Hibbing, has served on UWNEMN’s Board of Directors for seven years.
