Board Member Spotlight: April Klander

What’s your “why”? Why do you invest both time and through monetary donations to UWNEMN?

I support our community programs because they really help people in times of need. This is my home, and I have been in tough times before myself. I want to see these programs grow and help others in their pursuit of wellbeing.

What do you most enjoy about serving on the UWNEMN board?

I love the diversity of representation in programs we have – helping children, individuals, families, and veterans across our service area. I believe in the same mission of uniting together to improve lives.

What accomplishment of UWNEMN are you most proud of during your board tenure?

In general, being given the opportunity to create a more positive future for our area. Mental health is so critical, and organizing trainings like Unmasking Mental Health is so beneficial to our region. Imagination Library is special to me – I love that we not only promote learning but also spending time together. Lunch Buddies helps give young students a more positive outlook and connection which is essential for our children.

What’s one positive change you’d like to see or help UWNEMN make in our region?

I want to continue working towards personal wellbeing as a whole by being proactive rather than reactive to support our region.

April Klander is a registered nurse for Fairview Range and has served on UWNEMN’s Board of Directors for five years.
