The first annual Women Veterans Unite retreat was held from May 4th - 6th, 2018, with 32 Iron Range female veterans participating. The retreat was held at Giants Ridge. The participants enjoyed a weekend of camaraderie, shared unique experiences, discovered individual strengths and explored personal goals. Programming and activities included health living, mindfulness, yoga, military transitions and PTSD, self-defense and safety, pallets and painting, memoir writing, pampering from the Laurentian Divide Salon & Spa, and more! Veteran and women resources, women World War II memorabilia and the "I Am Not Invisible" exhibit were on display. The retreat was free for Iron Range veterans and included programs, meals and lodging at The Lodge at Giants Ridge.
Many of the participants noted that they had never met another female veteran on the Iron Range before this retreat brought them together. One veteran wrote, "Thank you for such a wonderful event! This gathering has opened the dam and I now feel I am beginning to heal."
Another Women Veterans Unite Retreat will be held in May of 2019.
