What is Read for the Record?

2019 marked the third year in a row UWNEMN will participate in Jumpstart's Read for the Record!  This is the world's largest shared reading experience, bringing together over 2 million people each year in classrooms, libraries, community centers, and homes across the US.  This annual campaign was launched over a decade ago to highlight the importance of building early literacy and language skills for EVERY child.

Volunteers visited participating classrooms in the UWNEMN service area to read to students and left behind the book for the class as well as stickers and activity sheets for each student.

Thank You, Omu tells the story of a generous elderly woman who makes a fantastic pot of thick red stew. The scent from her stew brings all of her community members over to her home for a taste. By the end, she shares a lovely feast with her neighbors where everyone contributes to the meal.

Stay tuned for 2020!
