Local veterans, service members, and their families are invited to a winter veteran family retreat February 24-26^th at Grand Ely Lodge for United Way of Northeastern Minnesota (UWNEMN)’s fifth family weekend retreat.

While January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, our region is home to several agencies working year-round to prevent trafficking in our local communities.

United Way of Northeastern Minnesota (UWNEMN)’s annual United for Veterans holiday meal package delivery expanded this year.

November is a unique month for Minnesota non-profits.

“Non-profits usually see an increase in people reaching out for help during the holiday,” said United Way of Northeastern Resource Development and Events Director Elizabeth Kelly. “And while we prepare for that increase, we also have the unique opportunity of participating in two large giving movements to help fund our work.”

UWNEMN’s Lunch Buddies mentoring program is set to launch in five schools across the Iron Range this fall.

In a little over a year, Brittany Lemieux went from being faced with a tough decision – quit her job due to a lack of childcare for her newborn or hope an infant care spot would open before her maternity leave concluded – to helping alleviate the local childcare shortage herself by opening Rainy River Rugrats with Danyelle Deedrick.

Non-profit agencies and programs serving United Way of Northeastern Minnesota (UWNEMN)’s service territory are invited to submit Letters of Intent to apply for UWNEMN funding by clicking here

UPDATE: A wait list has been started for local families in need to apply for their school-age children to receive free new school shoes through the Community Steps program.

Ah, summer in northern Minnesota! How remarkable, that each year warm, sunny weather replaces the frigid winters we endure. However, while there is much to enjoy this time of year, we at United Way of Northeastern Minnesota (UWNEMN) also know that summer can be tough for many local families.
