2023-2024 Lunch Buddies Mentor Application

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Lunch Buddies mentor for the 2023-2024 school year!

All schools have enough mentors for the 2023-2024 school year. If you would like to still apply to become a mentor, these are the schools currently enrolled in the program:

Falls Elementary School (International Falls)
Keewatin Elementary School
Laurentian Elementary School (Eveleth)
Merritt Elementary School (Mountain Iron)
Mesabi East School (Aurora)
North Star Elementary School (Eveleth)
Northeast Range School (Babbitt)
Parkview Elementary School (Virginia)
Vaughan-Steffensrud Elementary School (Chisholm)

If you are interested in serving as a Lunch Buddies mentor in the 2023-2024 school year in a community not listed above, please contact sarah@unitedwaynemn.org or 218-254-3329 to get on a list for more information should your community be added.

Mentor requirements:

Mentors must be 18+.
Have ability to travel to school on a weekly basis.
Complete an application, fill out an interest survey (for matching with mentors), and provide references.
Pass a background check and interview with UWNEMN program staff.
Complete training.
Commit to meeting with mentee one hour/week for designated length of program.

I understand that United Way of Northeastern Minnesota is not obligated to provide a reason for their decision in accepting or rejecting me as a mentor.

In making this application to be a volunteer, I understand that United Way of Northeastern Minnesota routinely performs criminal record checks of all volunteers for the position of mentor for which I am applying. This check may be done on me if I sign below. If I fail to sign, it may be grounds for rejecting me as a mentor.

I give consent for the results of my criminal record check to be shared with the school at which I will be mentoring.
